Passing Through

Passing Through

This is the dream I woke up with yesterday. By evening I had tried several times to write it down, but I had trouble with it each time: my friend who died in January had returned, and as I placed my hands on his shoulders in greeting, he smiled and his shoulders turned into misty mountains.... It was just a fragment, and not even a disturbing one, except that it wouldn’t let go, even after a fruitless trip to Goodwill and then a bookstore downtown. On my way home, the car’s “check engine” light came on.

sorry William I wont to say:

I hope that your friend does not disappear even from your dreams

It is hard to let go of those we love, but whenever they come for just a short visit, try to remember, just embrace the moment of sorrow when you wake up to your daydream!
Have a nice one!:O)

Thank you, Laura. Like the title, I think he was just passing through. Later, the light went off again; maybe that’s when the dream really ended....

Aleksandra, thank you. The moment was as much of joy as sorrow....

Not often, but several times...

You needed to see him again and he was there for you just as he was in life. He had but a short visit which is all someone in a dream has, this is why he you couldn't touch him...he couldn't stay. The car's engine light was probably a sign that he was leaving you for now.
My mother has visited me in my dreams a few times since she died back in 1994 way to young. Each dream has been a beautiful short visit that ended way to soon. I look forward to the next one just as I am sure you do with your friend...

I do, Janice, and I look forward to the way they color the day.

Elusive, as all ghosts and memories are, made of solid vapor, they present as each...but they are more. And then the reality of the light. Very interesting.

William-
Your friend shows up. It is wonderful to have an old friend present at times...in any form.
One remembers fondly and laments
and in the end it is good, very good.

I want to thank you here for dropping by ALL WAYS. Your comments are truly appreciated and inspiring.

Yes, Annie, the light, connected to the dream in the very least by my mention of it here. I love your comment.

And I love yours as well, Robert. The feeling goes both ways. Or should I say All Ways? Your photo of hands is something I’ll return to again and again.

my interpretation: he decided to take the high road when you touched his shoulder cos he knows you got a car with engine troubles and didn't want a lift? well, why not? it is possible... isn't it? i'm off to paint.

Ha! — of course it’s possible. It’s also possible that he knows I’m still going nowhere, in which case he would have wanted to ride along. Because in all the years we knew each other, we went nowhere far together. Some things never change....
