The year it’s been, the life it is

Stake your claim
and fertile be thy bones

a passing train
soon gone

your hat
in the wind

a place
by the road

your face
a field

to loving
hands

Maybe it's because of an all too recent tragedy in my own life, but this seems a beautiful prayer that could be recited at a memorial service.

That one word, “prayer,” was with me all through the making of this poem. And now that prayer is beautifully answered. Thank you both.
