This much, how much

(1923-1995)

This much, how much, you don’t know;
poetry, the joy of open eyes; memory, the joy of closed;
brief, the means of scant reply; of longing, longer,
than you suppose; grief, the chance to wings
apply, the dreams of open eyes,
now poetry, alone,
that flows.
